Compass Regional Hospice returns to the patio of Fisherman’s Crab Deck in Grasonville on Thursday, June 22, to host a fundraiser for Camp New Dawn. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and continues through 8:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome and admission is free.
The centerpiece of this fundraiser is a silent auction with unique items that will be available for bid. Guests will also have a chance to win a pot of cash by purchasing 50/50 raffle tickets. Food is available for purchase in the restaurant.
Camp New Dawn, an annual program of the Compass Regional Hospice Hope and Healing Center, is a three‐day, two‐night retreat for grieving children, teens and families held each summer at Camp Pecometh in Centreville. Serving children between the ages of four and 17 and their families.
Camp kicks off on Saturday, August 19, at 12:30 p.m., when campers aged seven through 17 arrive at Camp Pecometh. The campers play and work together until the closing celebration on Monday, August 21 at 4:30 p.m. A day camp for children aged four through six is held on Monday, August 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Camp New Dawn adult retreat begins on Sunday, August 20 at 4:00 p.m., when parents of campers arrive for an overnight session with other adults. While the campers are busy learning how to cope with their grief, the adult retreat helps restore participants to a place of wholeness as they learn to navigate their grief journey.
At the end of the weekend the adults and children come together at family camp to learn skills that they can take home with them, which will help them rely on one another as they heal. Family camp ends on Tuesday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m.
The cost of Camp New Dawn is $30 for each child or teen and $75 for each family. No one is ever turned away due to inability to pay. These registration fees represent only a fraction of the actual cost of operating Camp New Dawn. Compass Regional Hospice relies on community donations, fundraisers and grants to cover camp expenses so that anyone who needs to attend may participate.
“Gifts like these make it possible to ensure that the weekend retreat continues to grow to meet the needs of people of all ages and stages of grief,” says Kenda Leager, Development Officer.
“Support from the community has been phenomenal year after year and we look forward to a big turnout at Fisherman’s Crab Deck on June 22,” says Rhonda Knotts, Director of Camp New Dawn.
