An apparent illegal immigrant is facing rape charges in Caroline County

On Tuesday April 4, 2017, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Officeresponded to Marydel, Caroline County, Maryland for a report of a sexual assault.

Caroline County Caroline County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene and made contact with the victim (female juvenile) and family members.  During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the victim had been sexually assaulted by the suspect who was identified as Sergio Leodan Morales Soto (age 19) of Hartly, Delaware.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office canvased the area looking for the suspect with negative results.  Additional efforts continued throughout the night which were also met with negative results.  An arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect and an Eastern Shore Information (E.S.I.C) bulletin was prepared.

The following day (April 5, 2017) the E.S.I.C bulletin was disseminated. Members of the Department of Homeland Security Investigations checked the suspect’s information and found that he was in Atlanta Georgia.  Additional information was revealed that the suspect had boarded a flight from BWI airport in the early morning hours of April 5, 2017 and landed atthe Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport for a connecting flight.  Due to severe weather conditions in the Atlanta area, the suspect’s connecting flight was delayed.  The suspect was located aboard the connecting flight and apprehended by Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI Agents).  The suspect is now in the custody of Law Enforcement authorities in Georgia, awaiting extradition back to Caroline County, Maryland.
