The Healthy Parks, Healthy People program have many wonderful opportunities for you to get outdoors and get in shape.

Our popular walks are continuing and its 5k season so we have two sessions of Couch to 5k scheduled as well as Boot Camp 101! Also, mark your calendars for Martinak Fall Fest and Parent Child Paint Afternoon!  More activities will be added each week, so be sure to check our website for more park activities by clicking on the calendar of events at or like us on Facebook at Friends of Tuckahoe and Martinak State Parks.



(Bring bike, helmet, water bottle and spare tube/ tools.  Bikes can be rented in advance at Tuckahoe/Martinak by calling 410-820-1668.  Rental free for Park RX holders)

Caroline Cycles: 25+-mile ride for experienced cyclist, no drop ride, on back roads.  October 7, 9:00 AM. Leaves from Martinak Park Office, Cyclist must be able to ride 12 to 15 mph. For more information, call 410-924-7402.

Tuesday Cycle: Ride 10 to 15 miles at your pace! It is a great opportunity for those new to cycling on Tuesdays October 3, 17, and 24, 5:00 PM, Martinak Park Office.

Trail Ride: Ride the trails and park roads at Tuckahoe to complete a vigorous 10-mile ride.  Meet at the Cherry Lane Pavilion, October 4 and 18 at 5:00 PM.


First Saturdays: Discover native habitats at Adkins. It is $5.00 for non-members and free for members and Park RX holders on October 7, 10:00 AM Adkins Arboretum.

Walk it Out: Challenge yourself to go further and walk faster on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Martinak Amphitheatre.

Senior Stroll: Meet up with others to walk the paved fitness trail on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30-11:30 AM, Martinak Park Office.

Dog Walk: Stroll the best paths while walking your dog. ($5.00 for non-members, free for members and Park RX holders.) September 7, 9:00-10:00 AM, Adkins Arboretum.

Everybody Walk: Explore nature along the new trail on Saturdays, 9:00 AM, Tuckahoe Park Office.

Parent and Toddler Walk: Explore the fitness trail and participate in simple nature activities with your child on Wednesdays, October 4, 18, and 25, 9:15 AM at Martinak Park Office.

Nature’s Interconnections: Fall Color, Fruits, Buds, & Bark: Learn how to identify trees and shrubs by their fall fruits, bark, or buds on a stroll through the  forest with master naturalist Margan Glover on October 8, Adkins Arboretum, 1:00-2:30 PM.


Sunrise Yoga: Led by Jen, from Caroline County Recreation and Parks, enjoy yoga by connecting mind, body, and nature with seamless transitions of basic yoga poses. All levels, 16 & older, Monday, October 9, 7:15-8:00AM, Martinak State Park Amphitheatre, Free for Parks Rx holders.

Morning Stretch: Improve your flexibility, core development, and balance on Tuesdays and Thursdays, October 3, 5,10,17,19, 24, and 31 8:00-8:45 AM, Martinak Amphitheater.  Bring a mat or towel.

Boot Camp 101: Do not be afraid to get dirty as you get in shape on Tuesday evenings, 5:00 PM, Tuckahoe Lake. All levels, Age 10+ You will love it! To register for this program, text 302-396-5767.

Tuckahoe Couch to 5k: Meet up with others for a jog in the park.  It is a great program for those beginning to exercise or getting back in shape on Thursdays, 5:00 PM, Tuckahoe Lake Parking Lot.

Martinak Couch to 5k: This program prepares participants to run the Thanksgiving 5k. Led by the Caroline County Family Y, Sundays, Martinak Park Office at 5:00 PM.

LMS Monster 5kTrail Run/Walk:  Participate in this fun run for Lockerman Middle School on October 29, 2:00 PM, Tuckahoe Lake Picnic Area. Cost is $20.00 per student, $30.00 for adult, and $70.00 per family.


Clogging Basics: Dancers will learn the basic steps to clog dancing and learn easy routines. No special shoes needed. Thursdays, October 5 and 19, 5:00-6:00 PM Martinak Nature Center.


Family Fun Day: Enjoy a day of fun on the Tuckahoe Challenge Course’s rock wall, tube net, zip line, giant swing, and pamper pole. Pre-registration is recommended. Call 410-820-1668. Cost: Adults 16 & older $20/person; youth ages 7-15 $10/person. October 28, 11:00 –2:00 PM.

Butterfly Garden:  Gardening is great exercise.  Come help us prepare our garden for winter on October 4, 10:15 AM, Martinak Nature Center.  Bring hand tools and gloves.

Martinak Fall Fest: Bring the family to a free fall festival to enjoy the apple butter and children’s activities from 12:00-4:00 PM. Entertainment starts at 12:30 with the Showtime Entertainers followed by the Choptank River Big Band at 2:00 PM. at Martinak State Park, October 21, from 12:00-4:00 PM.

Aroma Therapy:  Learn how natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant enhances your psychological and physical well-being at the Martinak Nature Center, October 21, from 1-2:00 PM at the Martinak Fall Fest!

Paint Afternoon: Back by popular demand! Parent and Child guided fall painting activity.  $15.00 per parent and child or can be done separately for $15 each on Sunday October 22, Martinak Nature Center 2:00 PM.  For reservations and information, call 410-924-1529.  Seating is limited.


Park Quest: Families, this is a self-guided nature art activity. Explore the Lore of the Land Trail at Tuckahoe. Bring pen/pencil. For more activities, borrow the Quest backpack from the camp store at the entrance to the electric loop.

Orienteering: Use your navigational skills to find locations at Tuckahoe State Park. Stop at the park office or go to the Youth Group Camp area bulletin board for more information.

Disc Golf: Come try it as you enjoy a beautiful walk at the Tuckahoe Disc Golf Course. (Loaner discs are available at the park office or camp store.)

    More dancers are most welcome for the clogging class. It’s Free! Good exercise!
    Classes in November are Thursdays, November 9, November 16 and November 30th!
