Wanted Caroline County Man Gives False Name. – William Adam Cheezum,Charged With Theft In Preston MD.

On 09/28/2017 at approximately 1141 hours,

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the area of Old Denton Road and Federalsburg Hwy, Caroline County, Maryland. The suspect vehicle was stopped for exceeding the posted speed limit. The driver, later identified as, Mark Lee Griffith provided a false name to the deputy upon the initial approach. The deputy was later able to identify Griffith by his real name and found him to have an active Caroline County Circuit Court warrant for Violation of Probation.


Griffith was also found to have a suspended driving status. CDS items were subsequently located in the vehicle and the passenger who was identified as, Janice Lee Spanish was arrest as well. Both subjects were transported to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and both charged with the CDS items found in the vehicle. Griffith was released on a $5000.00 unsecured bond related to the recent District Court charges; but, held on the VOP bench warrant without bond. Spanish was released on her own personal recognizance.




On 09/25/2017 at approximately 0923 hrs.

Deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office responded to Elliott’s Automotive located at 4936 Preston Rd. Federalsburg, MD. in reference to a past theft complaint.


During investigation a review of the business video surveillance camera shows a black SUV style vehicle back down the east side of the building at approximately 0620 hrs. A white male, later identified as William Adam Cheezum, exited the vehicle. Cheezum walks out of the video surveillance view for approximately one minute. Cheezum is then observed back on video surveillance carrying a car radiator that was located leaning against a fence and placing it inside his vehicle. Cheezum is then observed walking back out of the video surveillance and is observed a few minutes later back on video surveillance carrying an object, later identified as a vehicle battery, and placing it into his vehicle.


Cheezum was later located at his residence and found to be in possession of both items. Cheezum subsequently returned both items back to Elliott’s Automotive. Cheezum was subsequently charged with two counts of theft less than $1,000. A criminal summons was served on Cheezum where he was released on his signature pending a court date.
