Gary Lee Ireland of Preston charged with Stabbing / 2nd Degree Attempted Murder.

On 10/08/17 at approx. 2144 hours

Deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 21269 Dover Bridge Rd. Preston MD for a report of a stabbing. Responding units were advised that the suspect, (later identified as 54 Y/O Gary Lee Ireland) was still at the scene and the victim, (later identified as 18 Y/O Zachery Ryan Ireland) was next door at a neighbor’s residence.

 

Upon arrival of the deputies the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The victim was treated at the scene by EMS for multiple stab wounds, he was airlifted to University of Maryland Hospital – R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, for life threatening injuries. Upon arrival, he was listed in critical condition; however as of this morning he has been upgraded to serious but stable.

 

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene to assume the investigation and the following information was revealed. The victim and the suspect are related (suspect is the victim’s uncle) and they reside in the residence with two other persons. Just prior to the incident the victim and suspect got into a verbal argument which lead to the victim being stabbed by the suspect.
