According to Gregory Bratman, a graduate student at the Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources at Stanford University, a quiet walk in the woods can help you solve problems and it may boost creativity. In a study conducted by Bratman, people who spent even a brief portion of their day walking through green spaces were more attentive, and walking improved their mental and physical health.  So, come to the park and join us so you can reap those same benefits.




(Bring bike, helmet, water bottle and spare tube/ tools.  Bikes can be rented in advance at Tuckahoe/Martinak by calling 410-820-1668.  Rental free for Park RX holders)

Caroline Cycles: 25+ mile dirt road and paved ride for experienced cyclist, no drop ride.  November 11, 9:00 AM. Leaves from Martinak Park Office, Cyclist must be able to ride 12 to 15 mph. For more information call 410-924-7402.




First Saturdays: Discover native habitats at Adkins. $5.00 for non-members, Free for members and Park RX holders. October 7,10:00 AM Adkins Arboretum.

Walk it Out!: Challenge yourself to go further and walk faster. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 AM. (No Walk on Thanksgiving Day) Martinak Amphitheatre.

Senior Stroll: Meet up with others to walk the paved fitness trail. Tuesdays and Thursdays,10:30-11:30 AM, (No Walk on Thanksgiving Day)  Martinak Park Office.

Dog Walk: Stroll the best paths while walking your dog. ($5.00 for non-members, Free for members and Park RX holders.) September 7, 9:00-10:00 AM, Adkins Arboretum.

Morning Adventures: Explore nature on the Tuckahoe State Park and Adkins Arboretum Trails, Wednesdays, 8:00 AM, Tuckahoe Park Office.




Martinak Couch to 5k: This program is designed for those preparing to run the Thanksgiving 5k or to just get in shape. Led by the Caroline County Family Y, Sundays, Martinak Park Office at 5:00 PM.

CCRP Turkey Trot: On November 18 rain or shine the 32nd Annual Turkey Trot fun run, walk, or jog! This event is a 2-mile walk, run, or jog for all ages from Denton Elementary School to Martinak State Park and back. Registration check-in begins at 8:00 AM. and the event begins at 9:30 AM. Other events include Turkey Dinner Relay, games, crafts, and refreshments and the Lil’ Pilgrim Wee Walk for kids ages 2 – 5. Morning Stretch: Improve your flexibility, core development, and balance. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00-8:45 AM, (No session on Thanksgiving Day) Martinak Amphitheater.  Bring a mat or towel.

Kids Stretch and Craft: Kids 5+ come exercise like the animals and complete a craft!  Fridays, November 3, 10, and 17, 5:00-6:00 PM, Martinak Nature Center


Clogging Basics: Learn the basic steps to clog dancing and easy routines. No special shoes needed. Thursdays, November 9, 16, and 30, 5:00-6:00 PM Martinak Nature Center.

Zumba Gold: For older adults who are looking for a modified class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity. The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination.  Wednesdays November 1,8, and 15, 1:30 PM, Martinak Nature Center.




Butterfly Garden:  Gardening is great exercise.  Come help us prepare our garden for winter on November 1, 2:30 PM, Martinak Nature Center.  Bring hand tools and gloves.


Tuckahoe Headwater Trail:  Discover the beauty of the Tuckahoe River with staff from Caroline County Recreation and Parks. Meet at Boat Launch on Crouse Mill Pond at Tuckahoe State Park to paddle upstream.  Fee is $25.00 for general public or bring your own kayak or canoe for $15.00.  Y member fee is $15.00. Park Quest: Families this is a self-guided nature art activity. Explore the Lore of the Land Trail at Tuckahoe. Bring pen/pencil. For more activities borrow the Quest backpack from the camp store at the entrance to the electric loop.

Orienteering: Use your navigational skills to find locations at Tuckahoe State Park. Stop at the park office or go to the youth camp area bulletin board for more information.

Disc Golf: Come give it a try as you enjoy a beautiful walk! Tuckahoe Disc Golf Course. (Loaner discs are available at the park office or camp store.)
