Federalsburg Branch Library celebrates renovation with Open House

Staff, customers and friends of the Federalsburg Branch of the Caroline County Public Library gathered at an Open House on November 8th to celebrate its recent renovation, which created a more open floor plan and added comfortable new banquette seating, lounge chairs with laptop desks and upgraded computer desks and magazine shelving.

The renovation was made possible by a donation from the estate of one-time Federalsburg resident Damon Bee.  The Branch received the bequest from the estate of Damon Bee in 2015.  Mr. Bee and former Branch Manager Sam Smith had formed a friendship over some 20 years, as Damon Bee always stopped in at the Federalsburg Branch when he visited relatives in town.  He was a fervent believer in education, a lifelong learner and lover of libraries, and truly understood the important role both school and public libraries play in the life of a community.

The Friends of the Library provided significant additional funding to complete this project.  The Friends have held two annual Library Mini-Golf events at the Central Library in Denton to raise the funds devoted to this renovation.  The 3rd Annual Library Mini-Golf fundraiser, which turns the Denton library into a two-story indoor mini-golf course, is scheduled for February 24 & 25, 2018.  It’s a fun and exciting event not to be missed, with evening tee times for adults on Saturday and a family event on Sunday!

The Federalsburg Frontier Girl Troop 350, led by Joanna Durando, generously donated funds raised at their annual “Edible Books” fundraiser to the cause.  Additional funding was provided from the library’s Carlton Gooden fund.

We are deeply grateful for the funding and efforts of our donors, and appreciate all the friends who came to the Open House to help us celebrate.  We invite everyone to stop by and “check out” the library’s new look, as well as all the great free services your library has to offer.
