Date: 01/07/2018  Theft from $100 to under $1500 Location: 600 block LEGION RD

Denton Police served John Gardner, 50 of Greensboro, with a criminal summons charging him with theft between $100 and $1500 and various traffic charges that included driving on a suspended license and driving without a license. On January 7, 2018 Walmart loss prevention staff reported that at approximately 1:50 am and unknow white male pushed a shopping cart full of merchandise out of the store without paying for any of it. A photo of the suspect was placed on the Department’s Facebook page. Shortly after the posting the Department received tips that the suspect was Gardner. Gardner was positively identified by other investigative means, charges were applied for and a criminal summons was issued.

On January 15, 2018 it was learned that Gardner had been arrested and incarcerated in the Caroline County Detention Center for an unrelated matter. Denton Police served the summons at the Detention Center without incident.

 

 

Date: 01/11/2018 Classification Disorderly Conduct Location: 500 block MARKET ST

 

Denton Police arrested Debra Kay, 48 of Denton, for disorderly conduct and related charges. Denton Police responded to the above address at about 4:00 pm for a disturbance complaint. The complainant advised that Harris, an upstairs neighbor, was constantly banging on the complainant door and wall, attempting to get the complainant out of their apartment. It is suspected that Kay was attempting start a physical altercation with the complainant. Officers advised Kay to return to her apartment and not contact the complainant anymore.

At about 6:40 pm officers were called back to the location for the same issue. Officers made contact

with Kay and placed her under arrest. While taking Kay into custody Kay actively resisted and had to be physically restrained in order to get her into handcuffs. Kay was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, disturbing the peace – loud noise and resisting arrest. Kay was taken before a District Court Commissioner who ordered Kay released on her own recognizance after an initial appearance hearing.

 

 

Date: 01/12/2018 Theft less than $100 Location: 600 block LEGION RD

Denton Police charged Philip Kirwan, 28 of Queen Anne, MD, with theft under $100.00. Walmart loss prevention staff reported an incident that occurred on January 10, 2018. Staff stated that they observed video of a male entering the store and exited the store with approximately $23.00 worth of food storage containers without paying for them. The suspect is then observed rummaging through a trash can and picking up a receipt from the trash. The suspect then enters the store, obtains approximately $19.00 in merchandise and returns that merchandise to customer service using the receipt located in the trash.

On January 14, 2018 the investigating officer was conducting premises check at Walmart and observed the suspect in the store. The suspect was then identified as Kirwan. Kirwan was issued a criminal citation charging him with the above violation and released upon receipt of that citation.

 

 

Date: 01/16/2018  Theft less than $100 Location: 600 block LEGION RD

Denton Police charged Shamika Jenkins, 27 of Denton with theft under $100.00. Walmart staff reported observing Jenkins placing clothing items into her purse. Police stopped Jenkins after she went through the checkout line and recovered the items that were concealed in Jenkins’ purse. Jenkins was issued a criminal citation charging her with the above violation and released on receipt of that citation.
