FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – Feb 5, 2018 Caroline County , MD.

On February 5, 2018, at approximately 9:42 a.m., Denton Police responded to westbound Shore Highway at Gay Street for a serious motor vehicle collision.  Information was received through the Communications Center that the collision was head on and there were three vehicles involved.

Investigation revealed that a 1999 GMC Pickup, operated by Richard Brighton Bean, 21, of Greensboro, MD, was traveling east on Shore Highway in the area of Gay Street.  The GMC then crossed into westbound Shore Highway, still traveling east.  The GMC struck the front of a 1999 Ford SUV, operated by Jeffrey Porter, 58 of Preston, that was stopped in the turn lane.  The GMC then crossed into the path of a Ford 10 wheel dump truck that was operated by William Peterson, 65 of Hurlock MD, and the dump truck collided with the GMC, pushing it approximately 75 yards before coming to rest.

Mr. Bean was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Mr. Porter was not injured.  Mr. Peterson was taken for medical treatment to an unknown facility by family members.  His condition is not known at this time.

Westbound Shore Highway between Legion Road and Street is still closed at the time of this report to allow for further investigation and for the scene to be cleared.

Denton Police were assisted by the Maryland State Police Patrol Division, C.R.A.S.H. investigators and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED), the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Highway Administration.

This investigation is continuing, and no charges are expected to be filed.  The Denton Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or events leading up to the collision, to contact them at 410-479-1414 or through email at tips@dentonmdpolice.com and refer to case number
